ADVErsE rEActions
• Severeemotional,psychological,orphysicalproblemsmayoccur:iftheapplieddeviceisuncomfortable;or
if it severely limits movement. If symptoms of these problems ever appear for any reason, get help from a
qualified medical authority and find a less restrictive, product or intervention.

• DO NOT use on a patient who is or becomes highly aggressive, combative,
agitated, or suicidal.

disrupted by a restraint.
• Patientswhohaveatendencytoslidedownortrytoremovetherestraintby
pulling it over his or her head.
• Arestraintappliedincorrectlyorwornbackwardsmayresultin
seriousinjuryordeathfromsuocation,chestcompressionor
patientescape.
• NEVERcriss-crossstrapsdirectlybehindthepatient.Straps
mayloosenifthepatientrotates.
• Makesurestrapscannotslide,loosen,ortightenifthepatient
pullsonthem,orifthebedorchairseatpositionisadjusted.

• Usesiderailcoversandgapprotectorstohelppreventthe
patient’sbodyfromgoingunder,around,throughorbetweenthe
siderails.Afailuretodosomayresultinseriousinjuryordeathif
apatientbecomessuspendedorentrapped.Poseyoersafull
rangeofsiderailpadsand/orgapprotectorstocovergaps.
• ereisariskofchestcompressionorsuocationifthe
patient’sbodyweightissuspendedothemattressorchair
seat.Useextremecautionwithchaircushions.Ifacushion
dislodges,strapsmayloosenandallowthepatienttoslideo
theseat(gs.4,5,and6).
• Monitorperfacilitypolicytoensurethatthepatientcannot
slidedown,orfallothechairseatormattressandbecome
suspendedorentrapped(gs.4,5,and6).
• STOPUSEATONCE:ifthepatienthasatendencytoslide
forwardordowninthedevice;orisabletoself-release.
• Monitorskinconditionsinthegroinareafrequently.Ifthepatient
slidesdownorforward,pelvicstrapsmaydamagetheskin.
1.
Place the device on over the patient’s head with
thepelvicpiecehangingdowntheback(g.1).
2.
Bring the pelvic piece up between the patient’s
legs and pull toward the front.
3.
Taketheendsoftheconnectingstrapsand
thread them through the vertical slot in the
middle of the pelvic piece.
4.
Separatethestraps,takingonetotherightand
the other to the left, and thread through the
loops that connect the top vest portion and the
pelvic piece.
5.
Secure straps to the wheelchair or bed frame,
out of the patient’s reach (See below).
6.
Slide an open hand (flat) between the device and the patient to ensure
proper fit.e device must be snug, but not interfere with breathing.
Beforeuse,checkdevicefordamage.Discardifyouhave
any questions about patient safety.
